FITSPA at the Uganda - EU Business Insights 2025: Unlocking Growth in the Agricultural Technology and Sustainable Mining Sectors

We are proud to be a part of the Uganda-EU Business Insights 2025 #UEUBI2025, an industry-driven platform for investing in Uganda and promoting Ugandan exports, with a special focus on Agricultural Technology and Sustainable Mining this year. During his opening remarks, Mr. Jan Sadek, Ambassador of the EU in Uganda highlighted the transformative impact of the Uganda - EU collaboration, highlighting that trade between the two almost doubled in the last 4 years, benefiting both Ugandans and Europeans.
Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon.Matia Kasaija ja also emphasized that Uganda's economic transformation depends on developing value chains and improving access to global export markets and reiterated Uganda’s commitment to leveraging Agriculture Technology (Agritech) as a major driver of economic transformation.
To foster connections between Business to Business and Business to key Government Agencies, the event featured one-to-one meetings between pitching entrepreneurs and potential investors in the exhibition area where some of our members including aBi Development, MobiPay AgroSys Ltd, INPUTI , EzyAgric , Hamwe East Africa Limited, a business showcase where businesses including our members, Hamwe, and Ensibuuko presented to the event audience the impact of their solutions on smallholder farmers, highlighting the potential of Uganda's #Agribusiness and Sustainable #Mining sectors, and a Deals room where enterprises including our members Emata supported by Einstein Rising pitched their bankable projects to potential investors.
We are particularly proud to have been a part of this initiative that is providing a platform for businesses and investors to discuss pertinent issues impacting businesses through the different panel discussions focused on tackling key challenges and exploring innovative solutions for growth in AgTech and Sustainable Mining. These panel conversations covered a myriad of topics including;
1. The potential of AgTech in transforming smallholder agriculture and overcoming barriers to reach smallholder farmers: This session, participated in by Mr. George William Luyinda, CEO, and Co-founder at EzyAgric highlighted the key solutions offered by AgTech to strengthen the agricultural value chains and promote access to local products. It also tackled some of the challenges and potential solutions in last-mile delivery of technologies.

2. Unlocking Uganda's mining potential, with a focus on exploring Uganda's #geological potential, investment needs, and strategies for value addition through local processing and refining.

3. Investment opportunities and scaling Agtech startups: This conversation highlighted the essentiality of funding in supporting innovation and scaling solutions to reach underserved areas. The panel which included FITSPA members; Ms. Lillian Nassanga Musoke, the Chief Product Officer and Co-founder at Emata, Mr. Alex Madolo, Sector Head of Agriculture at dfcu Bank, and moderated by FITSPA Uganda's Communications Manager, Ms. Doreen Nakibombo explored the trends in AgTech funding in Uganda, the opportunities for #venture capital, #impact Investment, and #blended #finance, as well as the support system needed to support local entrepreneurs and encourage investment in the region.

4. Sustainable mining in Uganda, focusing on #ESG financing and #clean #energy solutions: This session explored financing options like green bonds, clean energy solutions and collaborative approaches among stakeholders, and highlighted the innovative technologies for reducing #environmental impact including #water management, #waste reduction, and rehabilitation.

Our heartfelt congratulations go out to the organizing team at European Commission in Uganda, and partners at Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP), and Bank of Uganda for organizing such an impactful event that taps into Uganda’s high-growth sectors of Agricultural Technology and Sustainable Mining, encourages direct engagement with key industry stakeholders, including policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs from Uganda and the EU, and facilitates the discovery of cutting-edge innovations that are transforming Uganda.
