Job Summary:
Palladium is seeking a Senior Software Developer to support the Ministry of Health in enhancing, developing, testing and maintaining national digital health systems and supporting components. The role will contribute to systems such as eAfya/UgandaEMR, iHRIS, eCHIS, and approved partner-built modules.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead full-stack software design, development, testing, code review and optimization.
Translate user requirements and feedback into technical solutions.
Develop and maintain secure APIs, backend services, user-facing components and integrations.
Conduct unit, integration, security, regression and user-acceptance testing.
Resolve software defects and performance issues.
Follow approved Git, CI/CD, code review, documentation and release processes.
Support interoperability using FHIR, APIs, registries and terminology standards.
Mentor MOH and Ugandan partner developers through pair programming and code reviews.
Contribute to technical estimates, roadmaps, release plans and operational handovers.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
At least 5 years of full-stack or backend software development experience.
Proficiency in technologies such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Node.js, Spring Boot, React or Angular, or equivalent.
Experience with Git, CI/CD, APIs, relational databases, automated testing and secure software development.
Experience delivering software using Agile methodologies.
Digital health experience involving DHIS2, EMRs, iHRIS, eCHIS, FHIR or OpenHIE is strongly preferred.
Strong mentoring, communication and documentation skills.
Important:
Based in Kampala, with national and regional travel as required.

The project is subject to award and final organizational design.
