Job Summary
The Communications Manager will support the strategic communication needs of Media Challenge Initiative’s dual NGO–social enterprise model. The role focuses on content creation, multi-channel communication, media relations, and visibility efforts to strengthen MCI’s mission of shaping a humane and healthy media ecosystem through youth-driven storytelling and sustainable media futures.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Storytelling
Research, write, and edit engaging content including press releases, newsletters, website articles, blogs, impact reports, and donor updates.
Develop human-interest stories that highlight youth voices and organizational impact.
Adapt content for digital, print, and presentation materials.
Digital & Multi-Channel Communications
Manage day-to-day social media content calendars across MCI platforms.
Support email newsletters and website updates.
Produce communication materials for campaigns, events, and community activities.
Media Relations & External Visibility
Draft media pitches, press releases, and talking points.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media houses.
Coordinate responses to media inquiries and arrange interviews.
Event & Campaign Support
Support communication activities for workshops, launches, and campaigns.
Prepare promotional materials and post-event reports.
Develop communication kits for events.
Monitoring & Reporting
Track communication performance metrics such as reach, engagement, and media mentions.
Maintain an organized archive of communication assets.
Support updates to brand guidelines and messaging frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field.
4–5 years’ progressive experience in communications.
Experience in media, NGOs, development organizations, or creative industries is preferred.
Strong writing and editing skills for diverse audiences.
Knowledge of additional Ugandan languages is an added advantage.
