Graphics Designer

Media Challenge Initiative (MCI)

Location: Karamoja, Uganda

Job Summary

The Graphics Designer will lead visual storytelling for Media Challenge Initiative’s work in media innovation, narrative shaping, and local journalism in Karamoja. The role involves creating compelling visual content that amplifies youth and community stories, strengthens brand visibility, and communicates complex ideas clearly for both digital and community audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Visual Content Creation

  • Design graphics, illustrations, infographics, social media visuals, posters, and campaign materials.

  • Create visual assets for news stories, training materials, reports, and outreach activities.

  • Produce simple motion graphics and short video edits to support storytelling.

Campaign & Project Visuals

  • Develop creative materials for campaigns on health, climate, youth, and culture.

  • Design print and digital materials for workshops, exhibitions, and community events.

  • Ensure all designs are culturally appropriate for local audiences.

Brand Consistency

  • Maintain MCI’s visual identity across all design outputs.

  • Contribute ideas to improve visual presentation in rural and regional contexts.

Documentation & Asset Management

  • Capture project activities through photography and visual documentation.

  • Organize and maintain a digital library of design assets.

  • Prepare files for both print and digital production.

Capacity Building Support

  • Share design and visual storytelling skills with young journalists and apprentices.

  • Provide feedback and revisions to maintain quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Multimedia, or a related field.

  • 2–4 years’ professional experience in graphic design.

  • Experience in media, NGOs, or community-focused projects is preferred.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creative design skills.

  • Willingness to live and work in Karamoja.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Experience with Canva and basic video editing tools.

  • Strong creativity and visual storytelling skills.

  • Cultural sensitivity and ethical visual representation.

  • Ability to work independently in resource-limited environments.

  • Collaborative and mentoring mindset.
