Job Summary
The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Analyst will oversee ESG governance and compliance by integrating environmental and social risk assessments into the credit process. The role focuses on identifying ESG risks in financed businesses, developing mitigation plans, monitoring client compliance, and ensuring effective implementation of ESG policies across the bank.
Key Responsibilities
ESG Governance & Compliance
Manage ESG governance and compliance requirements.
Ensure adherence to internal ESG policies and procedures.
Support ESG assurance programs and follow-up actions.
Environmental & Social Risk Assessment
Conduct environmental and social risk appraisals:
Desktop-based assessments
Site-based assessments
Categorize environmental and social risks for proposed transactions.
Identify ESG risks in businesses financed by the bank.
Risk Management & Monitoring
Develop practical ESG risk management plans.
Incorporate mitigation plans into facility agreements.
Monitor client compliance with agreed ESG requirements.
Review and improve ESG monitoring procedures.
Training & Capacity Building
Build environmental and social awareness among clients.
Conduct ESG training across all levels of the organization.
Strengthen ESG capacity across business departments.
Sustainability Support
Support business units and the foundation on:
ESG opportunities
Sustainability products
Impact-related services
Deliver internal ESG and sustainability reports.
Additional Duties
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in:
Environmental Sciences
Natural Resources Management
Sustainable Development
Sustainable Finance
Business
Related field
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in an ESG-related role
Previous banking experience is highly desirable
Key Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of:
Environmental legislation
Social governance regulations
Health and safety laws
Practical ESG assessment experience across multiple sectors
Strong analytical skills
Excellent communication skills
Report writing skills
Organizational skills
Knowledge of:
IFC Performance Standards
Uganda Bankers Association ESG Framework
National environmental and social legal frameworks
