Job Summary

Stanbic Bank Uganda is seeking a Data Scientist to support the application of data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modelling techniques to solve business problems. The successful candidate will work with large structured and unstructured datasets to generate actionable insights, build predictive models, and support data-driven decision-making across the Bank.

Key Responsibilities

Data Science & Analytics

• Apply data mining techniques to extract insights from large datasets.

• Perform statistical analysis on structured and unstructured data.

• Develop predictive models to address business challenges.

• Identify trends, patterns, and opportunities through advanced analytics.

• Build machine learning models to improve business outcomes.

Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence

• Develop and support machine learning models using Python or R.

• Utilize distributed data processing technologies and frameworks.

• Support implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

• Assist in operationalizing machine learning models for production use.

Data Engineering & Processing

• Work with large-scale distributed computing platforms including:

  • Hadoop

  • HDFS

  • Spark

  • Kafka

• Process and analyze structured and unstructured data efficiently.

• Support ETL processes and data architecture initiatives.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

• Develop analytical solutions that support strategic business decisions.

• Produce dashboards and visualizations using business intelligence tools.

• Translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

Systems Integration

• Integrate predictive models into production systems.

• Collaborate with technology and business teams to implement analytical solutions.

• Ensure models meet business requirements and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in:

  • Information Studies

  • Statistics

  • Data Science

  • Or a related field.

Experience

• 3–4 years of experience working with structured and unstructured data.

• Experience in:

  • Data mining

  • Machine learning

  • Predictive modelling

  • Business intelligence

  • Data visualization

  • Software development

• Understanding of financial services data, products, and systems.

• Experience in technical business intelligence and project management.
