FITSPA Holds Soft Skills Training for the Pilot Cohort of the FITSPA Youth NextGen Fellowship 2026

On 23rd April, FITSPA successfully held the Soft Skills Training and Orientation session for the pilot cohort of the FITSPA Youth NextGen Fellowship 2026 at Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala, marking the official launch of a transformative journey aimed at building Uganda’s next generation of fintech professionals.

The session brought together selected fellows at the start of a structured, three-month hybrid industry placement programme designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry expectations.

Launching a New Pipeline of Fintech Talent

The FITSPA Youth NextGen Fellowship is an industry-driven initiative designed to respond to one of the most pressing needs in Uganda’s fintech ecosystem, the growing demand for skilled, job-ready digital talent.

Through a combination of structured learning, mentorship, and hands-on industry placement, the programme equips recent graduates with both technical and soft skills required to thrive in today’s fast-evolving financial technology landscape.

The fellowship focuses on specialized career tracks including UI/UX Design, Frontend Development, Backend Development, and Product Management. By integrating training with practical exposure, the programme ensures that fellows gain not only knowledge but also meaningful workplace experience.

Soft Skills Training and Orientation

The Soft Skills Training session was facilitated by Mr. Stephen Musoke and served as the official onboarding point for the fellows, introducing them to the programme structure, expectations, and the professional competencies required to succeed within fintech environments.

During the session, fellows were guided through key areas such as professional communication and workplace etiquette, teamwork and collaboration in agile environments, problem-solving and critical thinking, adaptability and continuous learning, and building a growth mindset for the digital economy.

The training was designed to prepare participants not only for technical work but also for the human and behavioral aspects of working in fast-paced digital teams.

Bridging Academia and Industry

A core objective of the FITSPA Youth NextGen Fellowship is to address the gap between academic training and industry readiness.

While many graduates possess strong theoretical knowledge, the fintech sector requires practical, applied skills and exposure to real-world systems, tools, and workflows. This programme therefore provides a structured pathway that connects learning directly to practice.

Through placements with FITSPA member organizations, fellows will gain real-world work experience in fintech environments, mentorship from industry professionals, exposure to live projects and product development cycles, and opportunities to build professional networks within the ecosystem.

Industry Support and Collaboration

The success of the programme is made possible through the active participation of FITSPA member organizations, who have committed to hosting fellows and providing mentorship throughout the programme period.

The 10 fellows in this pilot cohort will be hosted by member organizations such as Interswitch East Africa, Zimba Technologies, Capital One Group East Africa, True African (U) Limited, Tradelance, and Wakandi Group.

FITSPA extends its sincere appreciation to all member institutions supporting the initiative and contributing to the development of Uganda’s digital talent pipeline. Their involvement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the fintech ecosystem by investing in the next generation of professionals who will drive innovation, inclusion, and sustainable sector growth.

Building Uganda’s Fintech Future

As Uganda’s fintech ecosystem continues to expand, the need for industry-ready talent has never been greater. Initiatives such as the Youth NextGen Fellowship are critical in ensuring that the sector has a steady pipeline of skilled professionals capable of supporting digital transformation across financial services.

By investing in youth development today, FITSPA and its partners are laying the foundation for a more innovative, competitive, and inclusive fintech ecosystem in Uganda and beyond.

Looking Ahead

The Soft Skills Training marks the beginning of an exciting journey for the inaugural cohort of fellows. Over the coming months, participants will undergo structured learning, industry placement, and mentorship designed to prepare them for successful careers in fintech and digital innovation.

FITSPA remains committed to empowering young professionals and strengthening Uganda’s position as a growing hub for fintech talent in Africa.
