Balance Sheet Manager

Job Summary
The Balance Sheet Manager is responsible for in-country Balance Sheet Management, including Asset and Liability Management (ALM), Liquidity, Funding, and Capital. The role ensures that the bank is optimally funded, capitalized, and positioned to achieve strategic financial objectives while maximizing shareholder value.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Management (30%)
Adhere to Capital Management policies and regulatory/Board-approved capital targets.
Collaborate with Finance teams to understand balance sheet reconciliation and trends.
Compile a 3-year capital plan forecasting regulatory and economic capital demand & supply.
Determine capital buffers and perform Cost of Equity calculations.
Coordinate all capital applications, ensuring quality and managing in-country expectations.
Engage with credit risk teams to assess and challenge Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) inputs.
Deliver the local ICAAP and Recovery Plan in collaboration with Head of BSM.
Liquidity & Funding (30%)
Ensure compliance with Funding and Liquidity policies, including Contingent Funding and Recovery Plans.
Compile and track an annual funding plan monthly against business forecasts.
Monitor adherence to regulatory and internal funding requirements and limits.
Set Liquidity Risk Appetite and conduct liquidity stress testing.
Deliver the local ILAAP in collaboration with Head of BSM.
Asset & Liability Management (20%)
Manage in-country ALM processes within ABSA Bank Uganda Treasury guidelines.
Centralize, net, and hedge all manageable risks via the Treasury Execution Services (TES) desk.
Measure, analyze, and interpret interest rate risk in the banking book.
Perform margin compression and structural analysis of balance sheet items.
Ensure behavioral assumptions are in line with Treasury guidelines.
Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) (10%)
Implement and maintain ABSA Bank Uganda FTP standards.
Guide business behavior and pricing to align with liquidity and interest rate risk profiles.
Assign FTP rates to new products based on interest rate and liquidity behavioral profiles.
ALCO Process (10%)
Produce monthly ALCO packs to required standards.
Serve as ALCO Secretary when requested.
Provide ALCO committee training on Capital, Liquidity, Funding, and Risk.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
3 – 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a financial institution.
Knowledge
Accounting and Finance principles.
Liquidity, funding, and capital risk management.
Financial markets and economic fundamentals.
Treasury operations including retail, corporate, and capital markets products.
Proficiency in Excel and financial systems.
Skills
Strong analytical and numeric skills.
Ability to interpret financial data and economic trends.
Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Planning, organization, and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
