Umar Sebyala is the Uganda ecosystem lead at the Celo foundation, a non-profit foundation promoting the use of open-source cryptographic networks to globally support prosperity, financial inclusion and environmental health through research, education and outreach.
The Celo foundation is working on Celo, a blockchain platform on a mission to create a financial system that creates the conditions for prosperity for everyone.
Prior to joining the foundation, Umar worked at Celo Labs (cLabs), a company developing software code and use-cases on Celo, as a community manager for Uganda
Prior to joining cLabs, Umar worked with Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL), Uganda's oldest telecommunications company for 7 years in the commercial department focusing on customer service and client relationship management.
His experience while there spans from client facing to back office roles supporting the enterprise team across a variety of client portfolios in the Government, Wholesale and carrier business, Corporate, SME and retail business segments.
Umar is passionate about distributed ledger technology and sound money and believes that collectively, we can build a financial system that works for everyone.
