The BI & Analytics team at SafeBoda is at the heart of decision-making across the business. The team’s core focus is to provide business data and meaningful insights across all areas of the business. As well as developing self-service reports and dashboards, our Data Analysts act as thought partners to each area of the business, providing them with crucial insights and support with experimentations to determine strategy. The ideal data analyst will have had 2 – 5 years of practical experience in data visualizations, analytics, BI tools, and impact evaluation.

Responsibilities: 

  • Becoming an expert in the data model and the data needs of specific parts of the business.
  • Ensuring stakeholders have access to all their operational data needs and have accurate and up-to-date metrics.
  • Using visualization to provide a storyboard of the learnings from historical trends, user behavior, and product insights.
  • Working with departments across the organization to measure the impact and efficiency of new products and business processes.

You must have:

  • BS/BA or higher in quantitative fields such as statistics, math, computer science, engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 2 – 5 years of experience as a data analyst.
  • Experience with writing database queries in PostgreSQL.
  • Ability to build dashboards and visualizations in Microsoft Power BI, Python, Tableau, Metabase, and/or Google Sheets.

The role

SafeBoda is hiring for a Senior Elixir Backend Developer.  In this role, you will be expected to perform the following.

  • You will participate as a senior developer in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from design, implementation, documentation, & testing.
  • You will determine and design system specifications & standards.
  • You will investigate, analyze, and make recommendations to management regarding technology improvements, upgrades, and modifications.
  • You will develop features across multiple subsystems including collaboration in requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, testing, and deployment.

  • You will assist in the collection and documentation of user requirements, development of user stories, and estimates.

It is a plus if you have experience working with a microservices architecture as we are currently migrating our legacy back-end application from PHP to Elixir and breaking the monolith into Elixir applications.

Country Manager, Uganda – Flutterwave

Flutterwave was founded on the principle that every African must be able to participate and thrive in the global economy. To achieve this objective, we have built a trusted payment infrastructure that allows consumers and businesses (African and International) make and receive payments in a convenient borderless manner.

This role will primarily be responsible for revenue generation, business growth (acquisition and retention), compliance enforcement and monitoring, partnerships and collaborations, innovation, driving operational efficiency, implementing brand strategies, leading the team and driving dynamic growth.  The role will also cover business expansion and strategically position Flutterwave as the dominant payment provider in Uganda.

This role is a fixed term one year independent contractor agreement that is renewable dependent on performance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Start-Up

  • Oversee start-up of project operations including company incorporation, registering with relevant tax and/or revenue authorities, obtaining office or business residence permits

Revenue generation and management

  • Develop and implement targeted revenue generation strategies and plans tied to Flutterwave’s annual revenue budgets and targets in close coordination with the Global Head of Finance;
  • Ensure all revenue reporting is in line with internal standards and format for ease of consolidation and tracking;
  • Ensure detailed competitor analyses are carried out periodically with recommendations for strategy adjustments in line with the market and Flutterwave’s outlook
  • Lead strategic negotiations, and see them through until completion, ensuring engagement across all teams

Business growth and acquisition

  • Ensure strategic growth into and acquisition of the Ugandan dominant market position, in line with Flutterwave’s expansion plans.
  • Develop and implement expansion and acquisition strategies aimed at achieving  
  • Foster strategic, mutually beneficial business relationships with key clients, predominantly including but not limited to Financial Institutions, Central Banks, Government regulators and other key industry stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage new business opportunities and take accountability for project evaluations

Compliance and regulatory matters

  • Develop a robust compliance framework, in collaboration with the Compliance Unit, aimed at ensuring Flutterwave remains in good standing with required regulatory matters at all times
  • Oversee and secure all necessary regulatory licenses, permits, and approvals required for the designated entity
  • Monitor compliance with all Ugandan financial and other regulatory requirements ensuring non-compliance issues are adequately addressed and flagged
  • Foster strategic relationships with key stakeholders in the regulatory environment ensuring optimal value is derived from these relationships.

Partnerships and collaboration

  • Develop and maintain key partnerships and collaborations in Uganda in line with Flutterwave’s overall partnership development strategy.
  • Actively negotiate and oversee all legal agreements and documentation and acting in the best interest of Flutterwave.
  • Oversee the development of the Partnership teams with a particular focus on identifying, initiating, and maintaining key relationships. Develop a trackable pipeline of potential partnership opportunities with a deliberate focus on conversion in line with agreed timelines

Operational Efficiency

  • Line management responsibility for sales, products,marketing, finance and ensure all business objectives are met
  • Ensure all business processes and procedures run smoothly leading to optimal productivity and output across all teams
  • Lead all business planning and budgeting processes ensuring interdepartmental coordination and strategic mapping of Flutterwave’s goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of in-country resources in line with approved manpower plans and budgets

People Management

Head of operation and collection – Ucredit

Ucredit  is recruiting for a Head of Operation and Collection  to lead our Operation and Collections team . Ucredit is a growing fintech company based in Uganda.

PURPOSE

The individual in this position will be accountable for the overall operational client relationships, optimizing performance, identifying and enabling new services and capabilities.  The individual will be required to deliver operational excellence to our clients by providing strategic proactive service, support to our customers. You will be responsible  for scaling up the  loan business to an effective team.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and Maintaining the loan portfolio of the company ensuring the default rate is minimal
  • Implementing operation policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and internal compliance requirements
  • Overseeing the day to day operation of  the Business.
  • Building the internal communication channel for the various department to work together to achieve the company goal
  • Formulating and implementing necessary Processes , changes to people and tools to continuously increase efficiency, improve quality and eliminate operational bottlenecks.     
  •   Identifying  areas in the collection process that needs improvement, implement enhanced process that helped collectors more effective , as well as give feedback for Policy change
  • Collaborating with credit risk, products, collections, marketing, and technology teams to ensure company goals are met
  • Monitoring the volume, quantum and quality of outbound calls made by the Collection Officers
  • Training and mentoring of staff members in the collections department.
  • Dealing with the external collections company
  • Resolving All escalated issues regarding Customers repayment
  • Collecting and summarizing data for a complete and detailed financial / data recovery report for Management and Clients use
  • Creating and implementing a strategy to improve the collection of outstanding Debt.
  • Building  strategic partnerships with telecoms / digital technology service providers, as well as all business vendor.
  • Initiating performance standard using key metrics for Target/KPIs and Monitoring the team overall performance
  • Preparing key Management report

Requirement

  • Must have obtained a bachelor Degree from any of the Accedited University
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in the loan Industry
  • Proven experience as Head of  Collection in any of the Fintech company  or similar leadership role in the financial industry.

  • Experience in dealing with external parties like business partners, service providers and outsourcing companies.

Strong analytical skills,Problem solving skills and experience with data-informed decision making.

THE ROLE 

Our People Operations  Manager will ensure we are building and retaining an exceptional team of professionals. Promoting our organization’s values and shaping a positive culture is a vital aspect of this role. The People Operations Manager will report directly to the Uganda Country Director.

The principal functions of the People Ops Manager include:

• To provide leadership and technical support for strategic Talent planning and acquisition.

• Support Talent performance, learning, and growth

• Human Resources Policy Review, Development, and Legal Compliance

• Owning or contributing to the successful delivery of all Human Resource & Organizational Culture initiatives/projects

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 

Talent Acquisition

• Work with hiring managers to develop and refine job descriptions, announcements, and coordinate recruitment

• Develop selection assessment tools (Eg. interview questions, case studies, and rating standards) in close collaboration with management

• Support the hiring managers with the review of online applications, evaluating qualifications of candidates, conducting interviews, and developing shortlists of potential candidates.

• Recommend system improvements to current recruitment processes to ensure streamlined, cost-effective, and high-quality services.

• Develop tools for enabling a smooth on-boarding process for new employees, and monitor the orientation process to confirm adherence to the orientation programs

Talent Learning and Growth

• Develop a structural process to identify learning and development needs and ensure that performance gaps or skills gaps are addressed effectively.

• Build a comprehensive Learning and Development model to support growth.

• Evaluate the impact of L&D on performance and behavior improvements to provide recommendations for future actions.

• Coach and train managers in their communication, feedback, recognition, discipline management, and interaction responsibilities with the employees who report to them.

• Update and maintain trackers and databases on Learning and Development initiatives and provide regular progress reports on their execution

Policy development, Implementation, and Compliance

• Provide an effective and dedicated HR advisory service to employees in relation to absence, health issues, conduct and capability, grievance matters, organizational change, and all other employee-relations matters

• Assist in the development, communication, and upkeep of HR-manual, employee directory, and organizational chart, and contribute to the development of policies

• Suggest new procedures and policies to continually improve the efficiency of the HR department and organization as a whole, and to improve the employee experience

• Ensures legal compliance with applicable employment laws 

• Manage the operations of the disciplinary activities including the required paperwork, investigative report analysis and communications

Monitor and support our Performance culture

• Coordinate performance evaluation procedures, guidelines, documents, and training material.

• Follow up on performance evaluation recommendations including monitoring staff on Performance Improvement Plans

• Ensure planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee performance by training managers and counseling employees and supervisors

• Support/facilitate performance-related training & coaching including evaluation tools & forms

Data management and HR administration

• Maintain and update employee files

• Manage employee benefits programs and immigration requirements

• Own budgets and logistics for all the staff engagement activities

• 3 to 5 years of experience with increasing responsibility, including at least 2 years of  management experience

Milken-Motsepe Innovation Prize Program

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) writes to inform you of an opportunity to participate in a technology prize programme by the Milken Institute and Mostepe Foundation.

The Milken Institute and Motsepe Foundation on April 28, 2021 launched a technology prize programme to propel innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa. The Milken-Motsepe Innovation Prize programme is a series of multi-year, multimillion-dollar prize competitions for technological solutions that accelerate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a spotlight on Africa.

The inaugural Milken-Motsepe Prize in AgriTech focuses on accelerating progress towards SDGs 1 and 2 on No poverty and Zero Hunger. The Milken-Motsepe Prize in AgriTech is a global competition for innovative solutions to increase economic value to farmers, from seed to sale. Registration is free and open to anyone, with a USD1 million grand prize available for the winning team, and USD1 million in additional prizes.

Teams have up to December 8, 2021 to register and submit designs and business models. An independent panel of expert judges will select up to 25 teams to each receive USD10,000 to develop small-scale prototypes over the ensuing six months. In the final round, teams will demonstrate their entries in field tests which will be evaluated by their ability to:

  • Increase net economic value to the farmer
  • Increase productivity at harvest and/or decrease post-harvest loss
  • Reduce costs for farmers
  • Provide a viable and sustainable business model
  • Be implemented by small and medium-sized farms
  • Develop or integrate innovative technologies
